Indiana Jones trailer - stuff you may have missed

WARNING: this post contains major nerding out and exposes an over-excitement about something that, in the long run, isn’t actually that important.

Read on at your own peril.

The Indiana Jones movies have always started off with the Paramount logo ‘merging’ into the film somehow and it looks like this one will be no exception. And my goodness, it looks high-tech, doesn’t it?

The army base in a desert surrounded by distinctive round hill. Area 51 perhaps?

The money-shot of the trailer. If this doesn’t give you goosebumps, you’re dead to me.

Now the action begins to ramp up. A car chase through a location that looks remarkably like the awesome matte painting of the box room from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Worst part of the trailer for me. A beat, a long-winded wisecrack, another beat, and then he starts hitting people. Just doesn’t work. I really hope that this doesn’t make it into the final film.

Likewise, I hope they do something about the really grotty lighting in this scene that completely ruins the special effect. On a side-note, anyone else think Cate Blanchett looks totally hottt in this film?

Although he’s in a couple of scenes in the trailer, this is the only time you can really make out John Hurt’s face, in the middle. He’s playing Abner Ravenwood, Marion’s da (briefly mentioned in Raiders of the Lost Ark), which would place him near eighty years old. He looks pretty good for an eighty-year-old.

Roswell, New Mexico, 1947 eh? Rumor has it there will be aliens and they will be done completely in CG. Let the groaning commence.

This looks really like a level from the last Tomb Raider game, which takes place in a lab experimenting with a giant Tesla Coil. I think it’s cute we’ve come full-circle. Indiana Jones inspired Tomb Raider, now Tomb Raider is inspiring Indiana Jones.

Ray Winstone looks like he’s orgasming in that picture.

Love the trailer though - truly a wonder of nature.
